Welcome aboard . . . !

Mid-South-Sailing.com is an association of four model yacht clubs in the middle of Southeast District of the American Model Yacht Association (AMYC). In South Carolina we are Green Pond Model Yacht Club (GPMYC) in Anderson and Greenville Model Yacht Club (GMYC) in Greenville. In North Carolina we are Black Mountain Yacht Club (BMYC) in Black Mountain and Asheville Yacht Club (AYC) in Asheville.

We became associated in order to promote our fleets and attract new members. In a short two years our joint membership has grown from a couple dozen sailors to near 80. We believe our growth and success comes from our infectious enthusiasm for what we do: We race model sailboats.

Each of the four clubs operates independently of the other three. We do share the same two types of boats sailed. Most of the rules we sail under are exactly alike — at least the really important rules are. Although the word “model” defines the size of our boats, they are sailed as if they are “fullsized.”

The two types of boats we sail are the Nirvana-II and the SeaWind. Both are sloops, the SeaWind being the larger. We sail them as “One-Design” boats and that means that modifications to a boat are really not allowed to any great extent. It keeps the racing level.

Some clubs race once a week, some three times. Regardless of where you live, you might find some sailing activity close by. Check out each of the four yacht clubs. Each club has something slightly different to offer.

Other than our effort to promote and share our interest in getting you to join us, we hold open regattas with our sister yacht clubs three times a year.
